OreImo season 2 episode 1 – Pantomime villain

Please spring season, please give me an anime to write about before my co-writers get to it. I really liked Demon King, but Inushinde got to that before me. Aku no Hana was friggen weird, but Shinmaru got to that before I could. Attack on Titan is out, but that was the title Inushinde called dibs on pre-season so I’m not allowed write about it. Don’t worry Scamp, I’m sure something good will come out that you’ll just be dying to talk about. There will eventually be a good anime that I can cove-WHAT’S THAT? HORAY EEMOO IS OUT!?! MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!

I blogged every bloody episode from the last season, and it was a hell of a lot of fun. I went through the same thought process so many other people went through while watching it. Pre season it’s this is otaku pandering incestuous moe crap. Then the first two episodes come out and suddenly I’m wondering whether this shit is legit and actually an honest representation of nerdy insecurities and sibling bonding. Until episode 4 and suddenly NOPE otaku pandering incest moecrap it is! The rest of the series was me daring it to go do something worthwhile. Something, anything Orai Emus, go on, I dare you, I double dare you motherfucker, do something of actual worth, I fucking dare you!

So it’s only the first episode and all, so maybe she will have time to develop, and I don’t want to be so harsh when we’re only one episode in, but I don’t like this Kirino character very much. I can’t quite put my finger on why. Something about even her very presence causes bile to rise up in my throat similar to what happens when I try to say the word ‘pr*blematic’ in a non-ironic fashion. I feel like I might have seen her before, as a final vision in my most horrific nightmares before I wake up screaming and covered in a cold sweat. I’m not sure OreImo works quite as well as an anime. I think it might be better as a stage play. Or a pantomime to be more exact. That way we could revel in our collective dislike of her.
